Asghar sponsors Jewish History Exhibition at Senedd

The Jewish History Association of South Wales aims to uncover, document and share the tangible cultural heritage of the Jewish communities of South Wales. The Exhibition, called “Voices and Images of the South Wales Jewish Community” is currently touring South Wales.

After the Senedd, it can be viewed at Tredegar Museum from 5th to 10th August and at Merthyr Library from 19th to 24th August.

Mohammad Asghar said: “I am delighted to have been asked to sponsor the Jewish History Association of South Wales Exhibition at the Senedd this year.”

“At a time when anti-Semitism is on the rise it is important that we recognise the immense contribution to Welsh culture, sport, enterprise and life in general that the Jewish community has made.” 

“As a Muslim, I am pleased to do what I can to achieve this.”

“I would encourage as many people as possible to go and see this wonderful exhibition which goes a long way to improve understanding between communities in South Wales.”

    Assembly Member for South Wales East

    Mohammad Asghar – known to his friends as Oscar – has been an Assembly Member since 2007 when he became the first person from an ethnic minority to win a seat in the National Assembly. Born in Pashawar, Pakistan, in 1945 Oscar is fluent in Urdu and Punjabi, and attended Pashawar University before completing his accountancy training at Nash College, Newport. Oscar joined the Conservative Party in December 2009, when he left Plaid Cymru and became the first AM to ‘cross the floor’ and join another party in the Assembly’s history.
